Mercedes is Making the C63 AMG Wagon Even Better

If you ask us, the Mercedes-AMG C63 wagon is a near-perfect car.

The wagon version of Mercedes’ AMG-endowed compact is stylish, fast and practical. It’s one of the few performance cars on offer today that basically without compromise, but now the automaker is looking to make it even better.

A prototype for a facelifted version of the C63 wagon was recently spied testing in Europe. One of the biggest change to be made to the wagon for the new model year will be the addition of Mercedes’ ‘Panamericana’ grille, which has been applied to numerous other new AMG vehicles including the AMG GT, GLC 63 and the S63 and S65 Coupe. New headlights and taillights and a mildly redesigned rear bumper are also in store.

Inside, the wagon will join the rest of the C-CLass lineup be getting a major overhaul. The automaker’s huge, center touchscreen display is expected to appear and will be joined by a new touchpad. The powertrain is expected to stay the same – but who knows? Maybe the wild minds over at AMG thinks their C63 needs even more power.

Look for the new C63 wagon to make its debut sometime next year. We don’t get this gem in the US and Canada sadly, but similar changes should be applied to the sedan variant, which is available to Americans and Canadians.

Next Mercedes CLS Previews its Fancy High-Tech Interior

The next Mercedes-Benz CLS will feature a similar dual display found in the E- and S-Class models.

Following up on the first teaser image showing off the front end found on the new CLS, Mercedeshas released another image previewing the interior. The front dash will feature a high-resolution dual display and it appears the CLS will get sportier air conditioning vents, similar in style to what was found in the GLC Coupe Concept. There’s also familiar carbon fiber trim contrasted by red accents.

The next-generation CLS is more closely related to the E-Class than the S-Class and will ride on the same MRA platform currently underpinning both models. Reports say the standard model will be powered by a new 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine. There will be an AMG CLS53 model also using an inline-six engine, but performance will be boosted by a high-powered electric motor. Unfortunately those hoping for a range-topping AMG CLS63 will be disappointed to hear there won’t be a direct replacement for this generation.

Expect more details to be released in the next few weeks, ahead of the car’s debut at the end of the month.

VW Exec on Mercedes X-Class: ‘Very Difficult to Disguise a Nissan’

Volkswagen’s management has proven itself to be excellent at a few things. They can run a hell of a company, they’re good at (ahem) crisis management, and they’re rapidly earning their entry to the Player Haters Ball.

A few weeks ago we heard Matthias Müller drop the mic on Tesla (boy, did that turn out to be prescient) and now VW’s Australian head of communications, Paul Pottinger, had a few choice words for Mercedes’ “new” pickup truck, the X-Class.

“It’s very difficult to disguise a Nissan Navara,” Pottinger told Motoring after seeing the X-Class for the first time. “If I was a buyer I might be surprised [with the quality]. When a Mercedes-Benz owner opens the door and sees Nissan hinges, the game might be up.”

The question of German quality in pickups is anything but academic in Australia, where VW’s own pickup, the Amarok sells rather well.

The X-Class, rather than being designed, built, or even really touched by Mercedes, will be built at Renault’s Cordoba, Argentina plant as of 2019.

We wait with bated breath for the next corporate burn VW has to offer.
